Randy Hunt

Randy moved to Nashville from California where he was a freelance double bassist and teacher.  He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance from the Mannes/New School Conservatory in New York City.
Randy has been involved in composing music for jazz ensembles, strings, piano, and solo bass.  As a freelance bassist he has worked in the San Francisco and New York City music scenes in a variety of styles from popular, afro-cuban, classical chamber, to jazz. With contracts aboard the Holland America Cruise Line, Randy performed nightly in Broadway productions and with headline acts.

He has worked with renowned artists such as Ricky Ford, Reggie Workman, Royal Hartigan, Joel Futterman, Sonny Simmons, Tony Malaby, Hafez Modirzadeh, Donald Bailey, Eddie Gale, Bill Cosby, Al Perkins, Richie Owens, banjo national champions Gary “Biscuit” Davis and Sonny Smith, as well as guitar/mandolin champion Mitch Corbin.

Randy’s skills as a craftsman began even as a young boy in woodworking classes and eventually led him to work as a luthier, product specialist, and in quality control for Zeta Music Systems.  Aside from his double bass performances in and around Nashville and his teaching schedule, Randy’s experience as a professional bass player is put to great use in double bass set-up and repair at Williams Fine Violins.
